Yeah, it's been over a month since I've written anything. But my heart hasn't really been in it lately. Plus, what would I say: Kids are sick again, I'm sick again, been having to work more lately than I want to, been busy with 2 monthly newsletters, etc, etc. Not too exciting, that.
My little sister has exciting news though; she's moving to Vegas in a week or two (the date keeps changing) with her boyfriend! He's a dealer...of poker, not drugs. :) And he's been hired to deal in the World Series of Poker this summer! I know NOTHING about poker, but this sounds like a huge deal and a huge honor! I'm happy for him.
They are having trouble finding someone to sublet their apartment in Shakopee...the people who were going to just backed out. It's causing my sister lots of stress...so if you know anyone looking for an apt over there, let me know!
I'm also super excited because we're planning a family road trip out East this summer! The more I think about it, the more insane it sounds: 2 boys in a van driving around the country for a couple weeks!! But we're planning on enjoying the hospitality of friends and relatives that we don't see often, and stay with them along the way...my uncle in Ohio, an uncle in Pennsylvania (who has a cabin in the Poconos that we might stay at briefly!), Dave's friend in Virginia... Dave's friend Lary is really the reason we're taking the drive; he's retiring from the Navy after 23 years. (Lary enlisted right after high school, and they've been friends since elementary school.)
I'm nervous about the whole thing, about how to keep the boys entertained for that long, and what to do with the dog during that time...but then I figure that every family has to have at least one long, chaotic family road trip! The boys are at a good age right now; they're still interested in things going on around them (and wouldn't have their noses stuck in a Gameboy when I'd be trying to get them to pose next to some historical marker)....because if we waited a few years, all I'd hear is how lame everything is, and that they need more batteries for their electronics! Good times!!
Dave and I have been talking a lot lately about family trips we both took as kids...Dave and his two sisters were stuffed in the back of a small car on the way to California, and spent most of the drive to New York in the back of a truck (it did have a topper, and a sofa back there). Not exactly....safe. Especially by today's standards. When I was growing up, we drove to Ohio for my uncle's wedding, Pennsylvania to stay with my other uncle, and visited my brother out in Colorado when I was in high school. This is where the memories form! I'll never forget the time my sister barfed on me on a trip to Mexico (we'd flown to Corpus Christi and drove in a TINY convertible to Mexico)! Or having to pose by tumbleweeds during that same trip (yep, my mom is pretty kooky)! Having pictures also by all the historical monuments in PA.
Fun stuff! And I can't deny my kids that same thrill...
